As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, “Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” Then, having fasted and prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them away.Acts 13:2-3
The date was Sunday, May 6, 2018 and the location was West Corners Baptist Church in Endicott, NY. It was a day full of emotion for me. The previous month I had been called by the congregation of Victory Bible Church in Junedale, PA to be their pastor. After prayer and godly council I accepted the position.
I had been a part of the church family of West Corners Baptist since I visited the first time on Sunday, September 14, 2003. I was just beginning my freshman year at Practical Bible College (Davis College). Over the years I had served as Adult Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, Trustee, Secretary, Treasurer, Song Leader, and Pulpit Supply. It was through these roles along with other activities and events that God grew and stretched me to prepare me for this season.
As Pastor Dave Cook and Deacons Dave Cartner and David Stewart prayed over me that Sunday morning, I could not help but think of the journey that God has been taking me on from the time I was born, to the day I accepted Christ as my Savior in 1990, and my Baptism in 1995. From times of rebellion to times of deep prayer and Bible Study. From visiting the campus of Practical Bible College in 2001 to being a Camp Counselor at Cortland Bible Club Camp. To studying the Word of God in College to experiencing cultures without the Word of God in Papua New Guinea in 2005.
We can only see one pixel at a time as we journey on this road of life, but God sees the whole picture. It is good to look back from time to time and see how God is painting a masterpiece in your life. A year-ago-today was one of those days to reflect on the 30 plus year journey that God has been leading me on. I am thankful for His guiding hand that has comforted me at times and spanked me at times. It is all done to make me more like His Son, Jesus Christ.
